A couple of weeks ago on CBC radio, I heard Brian Keating, in conservation outreach at the Calgary Zoo , interviewed after he visited the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant Orphanage near Nairobi, Kenya. The work that's being done here with baby elephants is quite amazing!
This is Pesi, who was stranded in the mud and rescued on August 18th, 2 days after he was born.
Each day for 1 hour the orphanage is open to the public to view the little guys as they are fed. They live with keepers who act as surrogate mothers for 3 years and when the elephants are about 10 years old, they will be released in Tsavo National Park. The Trust has worked hard to find the best ways to support orphaned elephants and return them to the wild. Guess where I hope to be next Sunday morning??!!!

Yes I am very envious that you are going to an elephant orphange. They are my favourite animal and I was so delighted to see them in Thailand, but not quite the same as what you'll be doing. I hope you get to feel the trunk of one of those little ones. They are incredibly soft. Please take lots of video and photos. Have an awesome time!!
